Call for Papers
 
The organisers of the Australian Astrobiology Meeting cordially invite you to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. The deadline for abstract submissions is the 20th of May, 2013.

The conference is open to all with an interest in astrobiology. It will consist of two days of invited and contributed talks as well as poster sessions, two public lectures by eminent scientists in the field and a panel discussion on careers in astrobiology. The conference programme is targeting the following key themes:

· Early life: lessons from Earth
· Other worlds and planetary systems
· Signatures of life in the universe

Speakers include:

·         Lisa Harvey-Smith (CSIRO) | Square Kilometre Array and Astrobiology
·         Jill Tarter (SETI)
·         Penny King (ANU) | Results from the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover
·         Eva Stueeken (UW) | Geobiology and origin of life
·         Julian Berengut (UNSW) | Astrobiological implications of cosmology
·         Chris Tinney (UNSW) |  Exoplanets and astrobiology
·         Martin Van Kranendonk (UNSW) | Early life: lessons from Earth
·         Ariel Anbar (ASU) | Whither the whiff? A Status Report on Evidence of Environmental Oxygenation before the Great Oxidation Event
·         Allen Nutman (UOW)

Registration is 100AUD for students and 200AUD for professionals. It includes daytime catering during the conference. Limited travel and accommodation grants are available and will be assessed on the strength of abstracts submitted.

Proceedings will officially open on Sunday the 30th June with a public lecture by Dr Jill Tarter (SETI Institute, USA) and an icebreaker reception at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. Dr Carol Oliver (ACA) will present her education and outreach project “Pathways to Space” and the associated “Mars Yard” and rovers. The conference will close with a public lecture held at UNSW by Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity) Participating Scientist Professor Roger Summons (MIT, USA) on the latest developments of this Mission to Mars.
